Fishbowl Advanced error

Fishbowl: "Unable to duplicate" — Override Hold access right

Sales OrderSales Order — Duplicate

What triggers it

When you attempt to duplicate a sales order for a customer with hold status, Fishbowl blocks the action. The hold status is a customer-level flag (typically set to prevent orders, shipments, or other actions until an issue is resolved—such as a payment hold or account freeze). Duplication is blocked because it would create a new order for a held account.

The fix

  1. Go to Setup > User Groups
  2. Select your user group
  3. Navigate to the Customer module
  4. Enable the “Override Hold” permission
  5. Log out and log back in to Fishbowl
  6. Retry the duplicate operation

This permission allows designated users to bypass hold restrictions. Note that this restriction may be intentional in your Fishbowl setup to prevent orders for customers with account holds; check with your administrator before enabling if unsure of the policy.

You don’t have to take our word for it: Fishbowl’s official Access Rights reference lists the Override Hold right under the Customer module.

What to check first

  • Confirm your assigned user group (Setup > Users, select your username and note the group)
  • Ask a user with Override Hold permission to attempt the same duplication to confirm the permission is the root cause
  • Verify the customer has hold status by opening the customer record (Maintain > Customers, find the customer, check the Status field)
