# Fishbowl: new quantity less than committed

> You're trying to reduce an item's inventory below what's already reserved for active orders or work assignments.

## What it means
You're reducing an item's quantity below what's already reserved or committed to active orders or work assignments. Fishbowl prevents this because it would create an impossible situation where you've promised more inventory than you'd have on hand.

## What to check
- View the item's committed quantity (what's reserved for open orders or work orders)
- Compare it to the quantity you're trying to set
- If the commitment is valid, increase inventory instead of decreasing it
- If the commitment is outdated, resolve or cancel those orders first, then adjust inventory
