# Fishbowl: "Cannot edit this type of item"

> The item you're trying to modify in this Sales Order is locked or in a state that prevents editing.

## What it means

This error means Fishbowl won't let you change data for this item in the current Sales Order. This usually happens when the Sales Order itself is locked (closed, shipped, or finalized), when the item type has special handling that restricts editing, or when your account doesn't have permission to edit this particular item type.

## What to check

- Check the Sales Order status: is it open for editing, or closed/locked?
- Look at the item record itself: some item types (kits, assemblies, discontinued items) may have editing restrictions.
- Verify your user permissions allow editing this item type.
- If you need to modify a closed SO, check whether it needs to be reopened or if the change should go to a new order instead.
